BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES
from Jean-Pierre Lauwers, 4-16-02
Max Olieslagers, brother of Jan Olieslagers!

Max crashed during a meet in Leauwarden ,Holland. It was reported that four women spectators were injured, but there is no mention of what happened to Max! They do say that it wasn't his fault, inasmuch as the moment he was preparing to land, a severe windgust forced him over the public area.
I see he died on July 28, 1911, so I accept that this is a photo of the deadly crash!
This explains why he was not awarded his pilots license and why he doesn't appear on the list of the Aéro Club of Belgium! He probably died just before he was scheduled to get his official license! That's why I sent the "Chevalier Jules de Laminne" list! In there he got an "unofficial" place as license n° 40 bis! In fact, it was awarded posthumously and serves to remind us of his life and career.
